Regardless of the field you’re in, applying for a new job can be stressful. Filling out numerous applications and then playing the waiting game is an experience nobody enjoys. Receiving emails stating you have not been shortlisted for the position can be disheartening and leave you feeling frustrated in your search.

However, what if we told you that there are a few secrets to help you find the best jobs and land an interview? This post will provide you with the important tips to aid in your job search.

Be quick! Recent data conducted by Indeed and the Centre for Economic and Business Research states that 43% of positions are filled within the first 30 days of being posted. When you are searching for your dream job, pay attention to the date that the position was posted by the employer. If it has been less than 30 days, you have a higher chance of being selected for an interview.

Network, network, network. A survey conducted in 2016 states that 85% of all jobs are filled via networking. While this can seem a bit disheartening if you do not have contacts in your field, do not worry. Networking does not necessarily mean meeting as many people as possible, it is about meeting a few well-connected people who can connect you with other well-connected people. LinkedIn is a great networking tool of over 400 million professionals and can be key in aiding in your job search. Put together your professional profile, connect with former employers, professors and colleagues and start networking

Look for hidden opportunities. Experts suggest that roughly 70% of all jobs are not advertised, so how are you supposed to find them? Once you have mapped out and expanded your network within your field, create and deliver your message to your contacts about what you are looking for, what you have to offer along with any samples of work as well as your CV.

Continue communicating. Once you have exhausted all of your contacts, continue to keep in contact with them. The response rate from contacts has been estimated to be between 15 and 30%, however if communication within the network is continued, the response rate will rise. Whether it is a follow-up email or an informal meeting over coffee, communication is key. If you continue to show interest, your contacts are more likely to help you in your job search.
